Lumo Translate

Privacy Policy

Effective 30 October 2026

This policy explains how the Lumo Translate iPhone app ("the app") and this website (lumotranslate.com) handle your information. In short: the app does not collect your personal information, has no accounts, and has no advertising or analytics. The developer does not receive your camera images, your voice, your translations or your settings.

Who we are

Lumo Translate is developed and operated by Ross Elton in Australia. To contact the developer, use the feedback form on this site.

What the app does with your data

FeatureWhat it usesHow it is handled
SignsCamera imagesThe camera view is used to find and read text on signs. Images are processed on your iPhone and are not saved or sent to the developer.
Listen and ConversationMicrophone audio and speech recognitionYour speech is turned into text using Apple's speech recognition. If you turn on "Most accurate listening" in Settings, Apple may process the audio on its servers, under Apple's privacy policy. If you turn it off, recognition is done on your iPhone where your device supports it. The developer never receives the audio.
TranslationText to be translatedTranslation is performed by Apple's Translation framework. Language packs are downloaded from Apple and, once downloaded, translate on your iPhone without a connection.
Spoken translationText to speakUses your iPhone's built-in voices on the device.
Sign history and settingsSigns you have read, your language choices and preferencesStored only on your iPhone. They are not sent to the developer. Deleting the app removes them.

What we collect

The developer does not collect, store, sell, rent or share personal information from the app. The app does not use advertising identifiers, does not track you across other apps or websites, does not contain third-party analytics or advertising tools, and does not require an account.

Permissions the app asks for

You can change any of these at any time in iPhone Settings, then Lumo Translate. The related features stop working if you turn them off.

This website

If you send the feedback form, we receive what you type: the message, the area of the app, and any optional languages, device details and email address you choose to add. We use it only to understand and respond to your report, and we do not sell or share it. The form is handled by our hosting provider, Netlify, which also keeps routine server logs (such as IP address and browser type) to run the site. See Netlify's privacy policy. This website does not use advertising or analytics cookies. We keep feedback messages only as long as needed to deal with them. To ask us to delete a message you sent, contact us through the feedback form.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Your rights

Because the developer does not hold personal information from the app, there is nothing to access or delete there. For any feedback you sent through this site, you can ask us to tell you what we hold, or to correct or delete it, and we will do so within a reasonable time.

Changes to this policy

If the app or this policy changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this page and the effective date above.
